“Polymer” is a fairly new material compared to metals, ceramics, or other inorganic/organic materials. In 2020, polymer science celebrated its 100th anniversary since its first official appearance in a publication in 1920. However, polymeric materials offer numerous properties such as lightweight, resilience, resistance to corrosion, color, transparency, and ease of processing, which make them superior to other materials in many applications. Studying polymer offers not only a fundamental understanding of novel materials, but also insights into various current and future technologies. Dr. Endoh specializes in researching polymer structures using various methods such as X-ray and neutron scattering, atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and spectrofluorometer. She also focuses on the science of deformation of polymeric materials, which is a crucial field in engineering. She aims to identify the molecular scale structure of polymeric systems and investigate the crystalline structure and orientation in nano-scale confined area, as well as the adsorption mechanism and adhesion dynamics of polymeric composites. Her interest extends to the biomedical field, particularly microbial activities at polymer surfaces.
