Graphic Designer & Marketing and Communications Coordinator (FSA)

Position Summary

This position provides dedicated graphic design and marketing communications support within the Faculty Student Association (FSA) Marketing department. The key role of this position will be to provide conceptual and technical execution for various components of various creative communication and advertising projects that will help drive participation to targeted venues while improving relations with students and the campus community and their perspectives toward FSA programs and services.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (e.g., graphic arts) and related marketing, advertising, or public relations experience or an Associate's degree in a related course curriculum or field and 5 or more years of related work experience in graphic communications design.
  • Must be able to adapt a single design to numerous and varied applications for both print and digital.
  • Demonstrated portfolio of design experience.
  • Advanced proficiency with the following graphic design programs: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator; must be proficient using Microsoft Office and Google Applications.
  • Experience using a DSLR or Mirrorless camera.
  • Exceptional digital photography and photo editing skills.
  • Experience working with print materials and preparing collateral material for production and finishing.
  • Self-starter; ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and marketing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.
  • Internet savvy with comprehensive knowledge of designing graphics for Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Creative individual with an artistic background.
  • Above-average proofing skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize duties due to changing deadlines.
  • Adheres to usage rights and creative licensing restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Functional capabilities with both PC and Mac platforms.
  • Experience dealing with vendors.
  • Experience functioning in a marketing graphics design and communications capacity is highly preferred.
  • Drive to improve skills through professional development.
  • Video filming and editing experience A+
  • Product photography A+

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop marketing assets for FSA products and services for print, digital, web and social media.
  • Supplement SBU Eats dining graphic materials under tight deadlines.
  • Develop signage and marketing and promotional assets for campus stores.
  • Photograph and edit apparel and merchandise for the on-campus stores' promotions and online store.
  • Assist with generating additional sales for retail locations.
  • Photograph people, locations, and special events on campus.
  • Create PowerPoint/Google Slides visual presentations for managers.
  • Consult with vendors to ensure adherence to time schedules and specifications for printing collateral materials for outside print publication (e.g., printing and promotional items companies, banner companies, newspapers, etc.)
  • Assist with video filming, editing and graphics.
  • Maintain/post to social media accounts when needed.
  • Adhere to FSA and Stony Brook University brand guidelines and social media guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

FLSA: Exempt
Schedule: Full-time: Monday - day shift
Salary: $62,400 per year
