Storytelling with Data
Building Knowledge through Visualizations
Data visualization enables analysts and organizations to see huge quantities of data clearly and identify patterns quickly. However, in today’s world, where data is overwhelming, creating and communicating through compelling data visualizations can be tricky.
In this webinar, panelists discussed the field of data visualization and its impact. They also walked us through important processes, activities, and best practices for creating compelling data visualizations by showcasing practical examples of their work.
Key takeaways from this webinar:
- Design your visualization keeping your audience in mind.
- Simplicity is key. Keeping graphs, charts, illustrations, and visuals clean can be more effective than trying to display a lot of information at once.
- Think about what your data is telling you and craft a story from it. Sometimes when we look at the big picture of our data, it’s easier to create visuals.
- Data visualization takes time and practice. Both Daisy and Heather shared many great programs, resources, and tips on how to create the most effective data visualizations.

“Investing in data visualization shows respect to the work that you’re doing and the audiences you’re serving. Take the time to either learn the programs yourself or invest in someone to create visuals for you. Either way, you and your work will benefit in the long run.” - Dr. Heather Lynch
