Jennifer Albanese (Director)

Jennifer Albanese is the Director of the Writing Center and the former Associate Director of the Writing and Rhetoric Program where she has taught for 24 years. She has developed workshops and writing courses for the Graduate Chemistry program, the IACS, and the Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University. 

Abby

Abby is a junior in the English honors program, and a health science double major. She is pursuing a career in healthcare and currently volunteers at the university hospital. She has also interned at NYU Langone Health and has volunteered in the operating room. In her free time, she enjoys creative writing and playing piano.

Aman

Aman is a senior completing majors in Health Sciences and English. He is interested in the medical humanities and currently works in HIV prevention for Stony Brook Children's. His poetry has been published in Narrative, Consequence, Mizna, and elsewhere. He is also editor of Stony Brook's undergraduate literary magazine, Sandpiper Review.

Amanda

Amanda is a sophomore completing her degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and  interested in the Writing and Rhetoric minor. She is also applying into the School of Social Work and hopes to pursue a career as a Social Worker. Amanda is the current secretary of her dorm's Student Hall Council. Whenever she finds a gap in her work, she strives to visit her dogs back in New Jersey-- and maybe her family too. She also enjoys hanging out with her friends, eating good food, and out-door activities. 

Anjali

Anjali is a junior double majoring in Globalization Studies/International Relations and Journalism. Her articles have been published in The Stony Brook Press, The Sidekick, and Watch Us Rise. She aims to pursue international law in the future. In her free time, she watches (and rewatches) Bollywood movies while knitting.

Antonio

Antonio is a senior environmental studies major with a minor in journalism. He is also the Executive Editor of The Stony Brook Press, the campus magazine. At The Press, Antonio writes, edits and makes graphics for the magazine. In his free time you’ll likely find him taking pictures of deer on campus.

Brian

Brian is a sophomore majoring in Political Science and minoring in Professional Writing, hoping to go to law school. He is currently a teaching assistant for SBU 101 and WRT 102, as well as a research assistant for the Political Science Department. Brian is also an editor at the Stony Brook Press. In his free time, you might find Brian working on his blog, snapping photos with his digicam, or singing "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie with his roommate.

Dan

Dan is a senior in the English Honors program. He was previously a teaching assistant for EGL 204, and is currently drafting a thesis focused on the relationship between science fiction and culture with regard to literature and media. When not working at the writing center, you can find Dan skating around campus, reading at the Staller steps, or surfing way too early in the morning.

Dominic

Dominic is a graduate student in the English MA Program. His current research interests are in Medieval and Gothic Literature. When not working at the Writing Center, he works part-time as a Communications Student Assistant in Enrollment Communications under Enrollment Management. He spends his off time practicing guitar, writing fiction, or playing with his dog–and occasionally–you will see him with a cup of coffee.

Elise

Elise is a junior majoring in physics with a minor in English. She is a member of the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) honors college on campus, and the secretary for the Women in Physics and Astronomy club. In her free time you can find her reading the densest object in the universe (her class textbook), or talking about horror movies.

Harrison

Harrison is a junior majoring in Environmental Studies and minoring in Biology. He is also a part of the MBA Fast-Track Program specializing in innovation. He's interested in pursuing a career involving marine ecology, environmental engineering, and working in a marine laboratory! Currently gets up at 4:45 AM daily for morning practices as president of Crew at Stony Brook University, SBU's rowing team. Intermittently he plays guitar, runs a photography account on instagram, and assistant coaches the Manhasset High School Crew team. Even more intermittently, he'll sleep.

Isabela

Isabela is a junior majoring in Coastal Environmental Studies. She intends to pursue a masters in Environmental Science and Policy and hopes to have a career in the field. She has participated in environmental research at Syracuse University and USF St. Petersburg that focuses on sustainability and environmental literacy. In her free time, you can find Isabela binging anime, cooking, or singing along to whatever's stuck in her head that day.

Jessica

Jessica is a sophomore majoring in English, and she is also in the Teacher Preparation Program. Jessica is a Resident Assistant on campus and is also a college fellow. In her free time she loves to read books or play animal crossing.

Kamala

Kamala is a senior pursuing a BA in English. She currently also works at the campus bookstore and the last Art Deco theater on Long Island. Kamala plans to pursue a career revolved around environmental literature and ecocriticism. When not reading four novels at the same time, you can catch her being overly enthusiastic about birds or at her local yoga studio.

Laaibah

Laaibah is a sophomore majoring in Technological Systems Management and minoring in Film and Screen Studies. She is a Peer Mentor for the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and is a member of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity here on campus. She is currently participating in an externship with igniteXL and Paragon One working with AI-Powered Deal Sourcing. In her free time, you’ll find her listening to music, watching films, or journaling. 

Laci

Laci is a senior majoring in English, with minors in writing & rhetoric and gender & sexuality studies. In addition to being a tutor, Laci is the Writing Center’s Global Affairs Coordinator, leading the center’s collaboration with the Office of Global Affairs to provide writing support to international students. She was previously a TA for SCH 101, EGL 204, and WRT 102, and this semester she is a TA for the WRT 102 honors supersection. She also participated in a fellowship with the National Humanities Center, as well as with the Herstory Writers Network. This summer, Laci received a URECA grant to travel to the Library of Congress, where she conducted archival research for her thesis on the queer subtext in the works of Shirley Jackson.

Maria

Maria Sazonova is a Physics and Mechanical Engineering Double Major as well as a Russian, Writing and Rhetoric, and Music Minor. She is a writer and editor for the RhetComp Journal and SBU Brooklogue, fighting to find time for writing her pieces. Her greatest wish is to pursue a Masters Degree in Russian Literature somewhere in this vast and culturally kaleidoscopic world. Maria hopes one blessed day to finish writing a book as transformative and beautiful as the ones she reads at nightfall. She enjoys reading serious classical books in the Russian translation and gasping theatrically, going on forest runs with her doggo (Yulik), attending events organized by her Russian Orthodox community, and dreaming of possible escapades to Europe.

Marissa

Marissa is a junior student majoring in Psychology with a minor in Writing and Rhetoric.  In her free time, Marissa can be found curled up with a good book or out on a hike taking pictures of everything. She also really loves concerts and hanging out with friends and family

Maura

Maura is a sophomore majoring in English Teacher Preparation and minoring in Creative Writing. She is pursuing a career in higher education, and is currently a TA for SBU 101 and an Undergraduate Fellow. She has read her poetry at the Undergraduate IMAGINE readings with the Creative Writing department, and is always drafting new fiction projects. In her free time, you can see her anywhere from playing trombone at the Stony Brook Jazz Loft, lifting at the gym, participating in mah-jongg tournaments, or trudging through all 800 pages of John Fosse's Septology.

Morgan

Morgan is a Health Science major with two minors: one in Biology and one in Writing and Rhetoric. She is currently a senior, hoping to pursue further studies in medicine. She was previously a teaching assistant for WRT 102, and is also involved with writing in Stony Brook's undergraduate mental health organization, The Humanology Project. Most of her free time is spent reading, watching movies, and going out with friends.

Petrina

Petrina is a dual degree undergrad/grad student working towards her BA in English Teacher Preparation with minors in Filmmaking and Film & Screen Studies and her MA in English. She was previously a teaching assistant for Writing 102 and SBU 101 and hopes to pursue teaching in higher education. She is also an avid reader and spends most of her free time in Barnes and Noble stocking her shelves, crocheting, working on film sets, and thinking about Halloween. She’s currently the President of SBU-TV and Film Productions, a member of the Student Advisory Council of the English Department, and is the Assistant Director at the Writing Center! 

Phoebe

Phoebe is a junior Psychology student with a minor in Writing and Rhetoric. She is also the assistant coordinator for Stony Brook’s Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) Program where she mainly focuses on data collection, organization, and analysis. Outside of school, her hobbies include reading, analog photography, and acting like a film critic on Letterboxd, where she writes amateur, but very funny movie reviews. You can find her in the Humanities building pretending to study for the GRE (where she is actually re-watching Scream).

Sam N

Sam is a sophomore English major and a member of the Honors College. His interests lie in feminist literature and literary theory, and he hopes to attend graduate school to build a career in academia, copyediting, or publishing. In his free time, he enjoys reading, watching movies and logging them on Letterboxd, and critically analyzing episodes of House Hunters.

Sam R

Sam is a senior majoring in English. She is a part of the English Honors and BA/MA programs here at Stony Brook. She has been a TA for PSY 103 and PSY 220 as well as an RA at Stony Brook Hospital.  Her main research interests surround psychology, film studies, and anything relating to literary theory. She hopes to pursue more graduate studies and a career in higher education in her post graduate plans. In her free time, Sam enjoys photography, going to the gym, and listening to new music!

Sara

Sara is faculty in the Program in Writing and Rhetoric. Her research focuses on the intersection of biopolitics, neoliberalism and ecocriticism in contemporary fiction. When she isn't reading abstruse theory or writing about clones, she pretends to be funny on Twitter and unironically watches Arnold Schwarzenegger movies.
