How to Apply 

Application reviews will begin on January 15, 2024, but the absolute deadline for new applications and referrence letters is 11:59 pm February 1. Please note, all applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents in accordance with NSF requirement. 

Please submit your application using this link:  SBU Phy & Astro REU Application 

The application includes the following components:

1. Personal, contact, and demographic information
2. A resume or CV
3. A personal statement. An impactful personal statement would include your previous experience, your career goals, and how this REU experience can help you bridge the two.  
4. Two reference letters, which must be sent to  PhysAst_REU@stonybrook.edu on official letterhead. Please instruct your letter writers to submit a pdf file, with the file name starting with your last name followed by first name, e.g. "Appleseed_Johnny _reference.pdf" will be expected for an application submitted by Johnny Appleseed.
5. A transcript from your undergraduate institution

Please make sure your applicaiton is complete as incomplete applications will not be considered. If corrections are needed, feel free to submit duplicate applications; we will consider the last materials submitted.

FAQ

Q: Is my application complete? 

A: It is the student's responsibility to resubmit an application if they think it is incomplete as we always consider the latest submission

Q: Did you recieve all of my refference letters?

A: We will let you know, if that is the case, only if your application makes it to the second round of selections. 

Q: Is it possible to submit an unofficial transcript?

A: Yes an unofficial transcript is acceptable.

Q: Is the deadline for submissions on January 15 or February 01?
