Our Services

In furtherance of our mission to ensure workplace, education and recreational environments that are safe and accessible and free from all forms of discrimination OEA offers several services to the University community, they are outlined below:


Equitable Investigation & Resolution of Allegations

OEA conducts thorough, fair and equitable investigations into all allegations of discrimination, including sexual misconduct which violate Stony Brook policy and federal and state laws.  More information on reporting allegations is available on our ReportIt Webpage, including information regarding our process for resolving complaintsThe ReportIt Webpage allows individuals to report incidents of discrimination, including sexual misconduct, 24/7 from any internet connected device.  If you prefer not to report digitally, a paper report form is also available in our Complaint Procedure for Allegations of Discrimination.

Reports of Discrimination

Allegations of discrimination on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, age, color, creed, national or ethnic origin, disability, marital status, familial status, pregnancy, genetic predisposition, criminal convictions, domestic violence victim status, and veteran or military status and all other protected classes under federal or state laws can reported using our  Report Form for Allegations of Discrimination.  For more information on Stony Brook Policy prohibiting discrimination and conduct that should be reported, please see P105: Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action in the University Policy Manual.

Reports of Sexual Misconduct

Allegations of sexual misconduct, including sexual harassment and sexual violence can be reported using our Sexual Misconduct Incident Report Form.    For more information on Stony Brook Policy prohibiting discrimination and conduct that should be reported please see the Sexual Misconduct Policy and Procedure and the Title IX Grievance Policy and Procedure from the Code of Student Responsibility and P106: Sexual Misconduct & Reporting Policy in the University Policy Manual.

Disability Accommodation

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, OEA provides reasonable accommodation for otherwise qualified disabled employees who require an accommodation to complete an essential job function.  Disability-based accommodations can be requested using the Employee Disability Accommodation Request Form.  A printable form is also available.     For those who are unfamiliar with our Accommodation Process an overview is also available.

Religious Accommodation

In compliance with the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, OEA provides religious accommodation unless doing so would create an undue hardship.  Religious accommodations can be requested using the Employee Religious Accommodation Request Form.  A printable form is also available.   Students who require a coursework-related  accommodation should make that request to the Provost.

Ensuring Accessibility

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, OEA will work with content providers and FIXIT to address any digital or physical accessibility issues that are brought to our attention.   Accessibility barriers can be reported using our  Accessibility Barrier Report Form.    For more information please see the Stony Brook University EIT Accessibility Plan or P800: Digital Accessibility Policy.

Ensuring Equitable Recruitment

OEA partners with Human Resources, the School of Medicine and the Provost's Office to ensure Equal Employment Opportunity, Affirmative Action and compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, including Executive Order 11246, VEVRAA and Section 503 in Stony Brook University's hiring processes.  OEA's role search and selection includes performing mid-search reviews of faculty search committee processes for  West Campus and SoM/HSC tenure track positions, collaborating in the approval process for all positions posted through Interfolio and reviewing and approving all "exceptions to search" for faculty and staff positions.  See Exception to Search Policy for additional information.  For more information on equitable search and selection view our Resources for Search Committees.

 

RESOURCES
 

Prevention, Awareness & Training

OEA provides online,  video-conference and in-person training.  Various on-line programs are available to help our University Community better understand applicable federal and state laws, our policies and procedures and how to access our services.  ReportIt: Ending Sexual Misconduct is available in versions that address concerns for both Faculty and Staff and Students.   Similarly a program that reviews our Accommodation Process is available.  We are developing new online programs on an ongoing basis.   Video-conference and in-person training addressing any of our service areas is available upon request.  Please see our Training, Prevention and Awareness webpage for more information or contact oea_training@stonybrook.edu to request a program for your area.

OEA provides regular updates to the University Community regarding new programs and initiatives as well as changes in policy and procedure through electronic bulletins and newsletters.  Our past communications are available on our News and Events webpage.
