Kim StaufferKim joined the Alda Center for Communicating Science and the School of Communication and Journalism in 2022 after teaching as head of acting at the University of Albany for seven years.

No stranger to applied improvisation, Kim collaborated with UAlbany’s School of Social Welfare on a series of projects using applied theater techniques to help students in social work learn to listen deeply and connect meaningfully with clients and others.

She is deeply committed to using theater to advance social justice and support societal goals. In addition to her work with social work students, she contributed to UAlbany Theater Program’s Moving Forward initiative to discuss and incorporate efforts around diversity, equity and inclusion in theater and actor training, including creating safe spaces and examining work for legacies of colonialism. She believes in the power of theatre as a communication tool for discovery, connection, and understanding.
