Living on Campus

Each Residence Hall Director and Assistant Director is provided with a furnished apartment on campus in recognition of the responsibilities these positions have to be able to respond to the needs of our residents.  Staff apartments are spread across campus throughout the residence halls and can look different depending on which community and building they are in. RHDs live within the community/building that they work in.

The photos below are representative of what a staff apartment on campus might look like. These photos are not all inclusive, nor do they represent every configuration of staff apartments on campus.

Life on Long Island

Close by the historic village of Stony Brook at the geographic midpoint of Long Island, the University campus lies about 60 miles east of Manhattan and 60 miles west of Montauk Point, convenient both to New York City’s urban vitality and cultural attractions and the tranquil countryside and beautiful seashore of eastern Suffolk County. A short drive to some of New York State’s richest farmland and fishing grounds, the spectacular Atlantic beaches at Fire Island, the elegant resorts of the Hamptons, the craggy bluffs and natural harbors along Long Island Sound, and the picturesque village greens and gracious old homes of the North Shore towns. The internationally recognized research facilities of Brookhaven National Laboratory and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory are nearby and a two-hour train ride will bring you to the heart of one of the most exciting cities in the world.
