Who We Are
Our mission in the Relationship and Forensic Assessment Clinic is to reduce the human suffering brought about by family problems (especially psychological and physical maltreatment). We provide both individual and conjoint therapy for individuals with marital and relationship problems
How Can We Help?
The Relationship and Forensic Assessment Clinic (RFAC) has been in existence for thirty-three
years. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who are specially trained in marital
therapy, forensic assessment, and therapeutic visitation have provided clinical services
to members of the community across the last three decades. Supervision is provided
by the Director of the clinic, Dr. Daniel O'Leary, a licensed clinical psychologist,
a court approved forensic custody evaluator, and a divorce mediator.
We provide both individual and conjoint therapy for individuals with marital and relationship
problems. We provide forensic assessment including personality assessment for judges
in Family and Supreme Court of Suffolk County for the purpose of providing information
to judges relevant to issues regarding whether a parent should have supervised visitation,
unsupervised visitation or therapeutic visitation. Further, we provide therapeutic
visitation in cases where it is in the best interest of the children to have a therapist
facilitate interactions between a parents and a child(ren).
Our Research
In order to emphasize the importance of delivering evidence-based treatment, the RFAC is also a working research laboratory. We have interests in a numbers of topics, some examples are listed below:
What are the special considerations when treating LGBT couples?
How does alcohol relate to intimate partner violence?
What are the predictors of future physical aggression?
How impactful is psychological aggression?
