Kinship Foundation's Searle Scholars Program

The Office of the Vice President for Research invites applications for the Kinship Foundation's Searle Scholars Program, which supports the independent research of exceptional young faculty in the biomedical sciences and chemistry. Stony Brook University can nominate ONE candidate for the award.

WHAT DOES IT FUND: The Searle Scholars Program Scientific Advisory Board is primarily interested in the potential of applicants to make innovative and high-impact contributions to research over an extended period of time. Applicants are expected to be pursuing independent research careers in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and related areas in chemistry, medicine, and the biological sciences.
APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS: Applicants should have begun their appointment as an independent investigator at the assistant professor level on or after May 1, 2023. The appointment must be their first tenure-track position. 
AWARD: $300,000 for a three-year period ($100,000 per year)
SPONSOR DEADLINE: September 30, 2024

A complete pre-application should comprise of the following:

  • Project description that provides an overview of the objectives, how they will be implemented, and the expected outcome (2-3 pages)
  • Estimated budget with justification (1 page max)
  • Curriculum vitae
