Peter Diplock

Peter Diplock is the inaugural Vice Provost for Continuing, Professional, and Executive Education at Stony Brook University.

Diplock was previously Associate Vice Provost for the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at the University of Connecticut, where he was responsible for developing the infrastructure and vision to facilitate success and growth of mission-aligned online and entrepreneurial academic programs. Under his leadership, he synthesized intersecting capabilities in faculty development, instructional design, and educational technologies, and since 2012 has been responsible for the development of more than 50 graduate programs and 450 online courses. This includes a series of innovative free 1-credit “pop-up courses,” with a multi-disciplinary focus on a variety of critical topics such as COVID-19, climate change, and a series of anti-racism courses.

In addition, Diplock oversaw UConn’s summer and winter academic programs, Early College Experience and Pre-College summer programs. In 2020, he established the Office of Continuing and Professional Education to advance the university’s efforts to support workforce development initiatives in Connecticut and launched the Office of Academic Program Assessment to support university efforts toward academic program outcome assessment and accreditation. He was a co-PI on two NSF grants, a $2.25 million project to study the impact of an innovative STEM service-learning model, and a $2 million project to advance inclusive teaching and learning for neurodiverse engineering students. He was also a co-PI on a $575K HHMI grant to promote Inclusive and Equity Minded teaching and learning.

At UConn since 2007, Diplock previously served as the director of the Master of Professional Studies Program, director and associate director of the Center for Continuing Studies, and director of the Bachelor of General Studies degree program. He has also held faculty positions in the Schools of Business at St. Joseph’s University and Clarkson University. Diplock earned a PhD in management and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts, and a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Western Ontario. He is also adjunct faculty in the Department of Management in the School of Business at UConn.
