The Stony Awards and Thank a Seawolf Employee Recognition Programs

September 6, 2023

Dear Stony Brook Faculty, Staff and Healthcare Workers,

Since its modest beginnings, Stony Brook has evolved into a flagship of excellence, a national leader in teaching, learning, innovative research, and patient-centered healthcare, and an economic engine regionally and beyond. Our impact is stronger than ever, and it’s you, our employees, who continue to make this progress possible.

Today it is my honor to announce The Stony Awards and the Thank a Seawolf campaign, two new recognition programs designed to celebrate all that you do. These initiatives recognize our employees who, through their service, collaborative effort, innovation and scholarship, are making our campus, the Long Island region, New York and beyond a better place.

The inaugural Stony Awards will be presented on November 29 and will recognize exceptional individuals who are committed to our mission and values, consistently going above and beyond in their jobs. The deadline to submit online nominations is October 9. I hope you will take some time to learn more about these awards and consider nominating your colleagues.

The Thank a Seawolf campaign is geared to foster a deep sense of appreciation and reciprocity for the work you do every day. Through a dedicated portal, all employees can both send and receive Gratitude Grams in recognition of outstanding work throughout the year across departments, divisions, and facilities. I encourage you to send your first Gratitude Gram today.

There is a strong sense of togetherness and excitement on our campus that we will continue to nurture, model and celebrate. Thanking colleagues for their contributions to Stony Brook not only allows us to encourage one another, it’s also a personal reminder that we are all stronger when we work as a team. Thank you for your commitment to building a strong, welcoming, and caring campus community.

Sincerely,
