Welcome to Spring 2024 at Stony Brook University

January 22, 2024

Dear Stony Brook Campus Community,

The start of the spring semester always brings a renewed sense of energy to campus, along with the promise of fresh possibilities. I hope the winter break provided everyone with opportunities for rest, relaxation and reconnection with friends and family.

The New Year certainly got off to a great start for the Stony Brook University community: on New Year’s Eve, The Sunday New York Times ran a feature story highlighting our vision for advancing the flagship university New York State deserves. If you haven’t already read it, I encourage you to do so.

The article noted the excellence and the value of a Stony Brook degree, which the author illustrated by our selection as the anchor institution to build the New York Climate Exchange on Governors Island, the $500 million unrestricted endowment gift from the Simons Foundation, and our highest-ever U.S. News & World Report rankings. I was proud that Stony Brook was recognized for creating generational access to education and the opportunities that result from it.

Our continued progress is made possible by the unwavering dedication of the faculty, staff and healthcare workers who commit themselves every day to bringing the Stony Brook story alive by supporting growth and possibility for all students from every walk of life. This feature story recognizes your efforts that make Stony Brook the best place to study, learn and work. I am grateful to each of you for the role you play in moving us forward, and I have tremendous pride in serving as your president.

I look forward to seeing everyone around campus as we make shared progress in achieving our grandest goals. 2023 was an historic year for Stony Brook University. In 2024, we’ll show the world what’s next for New York State’s flagship university.

Sincerely,
