Julia Brown earned her BA from Winona State University in English, and her MA from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in Composition with a minor in Medical Humanities. Her research interests include 20th and 21st century American literature with a focus on ways representations of health, health care and medicine can illuminate the foundational role of race, gender, sexuality, and class biases in modern health care. She has taught at Queensborough Community College, and at City College of New York where she also served as Assistant Director of the Teaching and Learning Center, and as an Open Educational Resource (OER) Fellow. She co-edits Survive and Thrive: A Journal for Narrative Medicine and Medical Humanities. Most recently, she has published on the digital story in the first-year composition learning community, and presented on the role of OER in the public university.
