Stony Brook Hosts 2025 IEEE Student Conference, Welcoming Hundreds of Future Engineers

Stony Brook University proudly hosted the 2025 IEEE Region 1 and Region 2 Joint Student Conference (StuCon), a three-day event that brought together over 300 students, faculty, and industry professionals from across the Northeast. Organized in collaboration with the IEEE Stony Brook Student Branch, this year's conference featured a dynamic lineup of technical workshops, student competitions, and professional networking opportunities—all held on campus in the Light Engineering building and surrounding facilities.
The conference kicked off on Saturday morning with opening remarks from key leaders across the IEEE and Stony Brook communities. Representing the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Coordinator Adam Ortiz delivered a welcome address alongside Professor Leon Shterengas, highlighting the department’s commitment to supporting student innovation and professional development. Their message underscored the unique role universities play in fostering collaboration and lifelong connections within the engineering field.

Attendees participated in a wide array of technical sessions and competitions, including the popular Micromouse and SumoBot challenges, as well as workshops covering emerging topics such as software-defined radio, embedded systems, and robotics. The conference also featured an IoT Ideathon and a Women in Engineering panel, giving students additional platforms to showcase their skills and perspectives.
In addition to speaking at the opening ceremony, Adam Ortiz represented the ECE Department at the conference’s Company Expo, engaging with students and sharing insights about academic and research opportunities available at Stony Brook. The expo served as a hub for professional networking, helping students connect with academic programs, research labs, and employers in the tech and engineering sectors.
