Diversity Recruitment Initiatives

Diversity Networking Recruitment Event

This flagship event, which was developed in 2007, provides an opportunity for Stony Brook University students and alumni to connect with employers with dedicated diversity recruitment needs.  A panel of professionals start off the event sharing about the current landscape of diversity recruitment and the value of creating an inclusive work environment.  In 2021, the event had an increased interest from both students and employers with over 85 employers and over 400 students, making it the largest in the history of the event.

Angel VelazquezI loved how employers were able to communicate how important diversity and inclusion are to them and how different perspectives have helped define their strategies in hiring equitably, and ensuring that their company provides an environment where people from all different backgrounds can be successful.”  - Angel Velazquez ’22

Not All SHEroes Wear Capes

View the 2022 Event Program

The annual Not All SHEroes Wear Capes event is an incredible opportunity for female Stony Brook students to connect with and be inspired by female leaders across all industries. Creating empowered female leaders providing opportunities to students at companies and organizations who value diversity is the core mission for this event. Students leave this event feeling confident that they are prepared to start their careers and become SHEroes themselves in the future.

This program was supported by the institution through a Presidential Diversity Mini-Grant.

Dabney VillasenorThe SHEROES event was so empowering! My favorite part was being able to hear from SHEROES 1:1, during the breakout sessions and learn about how they rose to the top in their careers as a woman in the workplace. It was inspiring and I'm glad to have been able to participate! - Dabney Villasenor '21
