Professor S.N. Sridhar honored by the Association of Indians in America with the excellence  in Literature, Linguistics, and Indian Studies Award

The Association of Indians in America
The New York chapter of The Association of Indians in America is honoring Professor S.N. Sridhar at their Annual Benefit Gala this Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 5:30 pm in Leonard's Palazzo, Great Neck, NY.  This is a recognition of the multi-faceted scholarly contributions of Professor Sridhar to the study of Kannada and other India languages, Indian linguistics, multilingualism, Indian English, and World Englishes, as well as to theoretical and applied linguistics in general. In particular, this honor recognizes the contributions of the Mattoo Center for India Studies at Stony Brook, which he and Professor Kamal (Meena) Sridhar founded in 1997 to promote a better understanding of Indian culture and thought in U.S. academia and of the Indian Americans in the U.S. The activities of the Center are outlined on their webpage here.

AIA is the oldest organization of Indians in America with many chapters all across the country.  Meena and Sridhar have had a long association with AIA.  They have both served on the Board of Trustees, many of the Center's benefactors are long-serving officers of AIA, and AIA is the publisher of Ananya: A Portrait of India, which Sridhar edited with Dr Nirmal Mattoo at the Center for India Studies. The 941-page reference volume with chapters by leading intellectuals was  released on the 50th Anniversary of India's Independence on August 15, 1997 at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel.

Congratulations to Professor Sridhar on this recognition. It is good to see the work of one of our own faculty receive public recognition.
